Would Your Dog Survive a Car Accident with their Dog Walker?

You trust your dog walker to drive your dog around Vancouver. But are you sure they'll be safe on the drive?

Not if they are riding like this:

Lots of dogs crowded into back of minivan without restraints.
Caption: At 50 kph per hour, braking suddenly can turn a 60-pound dog can turn into a 2,700-pound projectile.

This is an accident waiting to happen. This dog walker is breaking the biggest safety rule for driving dogs safely: ALWAYS safely restrain your dog. Even in a small accident, an unrestrained dog quickly becomes projectile, injuring itself and any other dogs or people around it. Many dogs in this scenario will also become scared, panic, and lash out in the aftermath of an accident, causing another set of potential injuries. Unsecured dogs can also escape onto the road after collisions, increasing their risk of being injured in traffic.

At Let the Dog's Out! we care about your pet before, during and after our walks with them and that includes providing the most safe and secure means of transportation.

There are only two ways to safely restrain a dog in a vehicle -- in kennels/crates or tethered via harness -- and so that is our standard to ensure your family pet's safety is always assured.

The quality of crates and kennels also makes a difference to your pet's safety en route. Not all crates are created equal: plastic crates can crumble and wire crates can poke. A tight fit is best, although the kennel should be just large enough for your dog to stand, lie down and turn around. Let the Dogs Out! uses a premium,
Swedish-designed Multicage Kennel system. These crash-tested kennels are 24" tall and can hold dogs up to approximately 50 pounds. The cage can hold two to four dogs depending on their size and has securely latching doors that prevent escape even in case of an accident. Dogs larger than 50lbs are tethered via their harness to anchor points. We strongly suggest using a harness with wide padding to help distribute forces evenly.

At Let the Dogs Out! we always restrain your dog safely via these multicage kennels and/or safety tethers to anchor points. We take every precaution to keep your dog safe by taking a proactive approach to preventing accidents. Our Honda Odyssey is regularly maintained and your dog is covered by our commercial liability insurance policy. We work hard to ensure that even in the unlikely event of a motor vehicle collision, we have provided superior safety measures to protect your dog from potential injury. Animal safety is always our #1 priority.
